Ring of Remembrance

To honour and remember all those who lost their lives during the First World War, the Ring of Remembrance, an international memorial inaugurated in 2014, brings together nearly 580,000 names of soldiers who fell in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais area between 1914 and 1918.

The distinctive architecture of the Ring of Remembrance, set into the hillside, was designed by Philippe Prost. The memorial extends over more than 345 metres in circumference, including a 56-metre cantilever suspended above the ground. Its circular shape symbolises fraternity and unity between peoples, while the cantilever reflects the fragile balance of the peace that was regained. The site encourages reflection, remembrance and contemplation.
