Wintenberger Mill Museum

Located on the banks of the River Canche in Frévent, the Wintenberger Mill Museum is a municipal museum dedicated to preserving the agricultural heritage of the Ternois area. It also houses the Frévent Tourist Information Office.

Housed in the former Saint-Vaast watermill, the museum traces the history of a site dating back to the Middle Ages. Over the centuries, the mill passed through several owners, underwent major restoration work and was gradually modernised before becoming municipal property in 1953.

Following a complete restoration, the building was converted into a museum in 1994 under the direction of Mighette Pruvost and opened to visitors in 1998.

The museum features 24 exhibition rooms displaying an extensive collection of agricultural tools, milling equipment and machinery produced by the Wintenberger company. Photographs, plans, models and historical objects illustrate the development of farming techniques and pay tribute to the generations who worked in agriculture and industry.

Special events also demonstrate traditional rural activities such as threshing, flour milling and rope making.

The Wintenberger Company:

Founded in 1837 by Bernard Wintenberger, the company specialised in the manufacture of agricultural machinery. Based in Frévent, it became renowned for its innovations and received numerous awards.
